Audience comments:

I did not take part in the whole event but enoyed this screening. / enjoyable / Really enjoyed all films today / Friendly, relaxed and enjoyable. / Thanks / Excellent film event / Still packs a horror punch

The same basic plot as the 1944 film, this time looking at the story from the viewpoint of the ageing hitman Charlie Strom (a terrific Lee Marvin), who's eager to know why their victim (John Cassavetes) didn't attempt to escape, and his psychopathic, hero-worshiping assistant (Clu Gulager). They're an unsympathetic pair, but utterly compelling in their ruthlessness. The movie defines the violent, complex persona that would make Marvin a star, and he's cast alongside the irresistibly alluring Angie Dickinson in the femme fatale role. Directed by Don Siegel, who directed 5 films with Clint Eastwood including the iconic Dirty Harry.
