Ace in the Hole is a 1951 American film noir starring Kirk Douglas as a cynical, disgraced reporter who stops at nothing to try to regain a job on a major newspaper. it was the first time Billy Wilder was involved in a project as a writer, producer, and director. Although it is most often viewed as a portrait of rotten and cynical journalism, it’s often lost that the film equally shows the public’s insatiable appetite for it. Wilder is equally hard on both, and nobody gets off the hook here. Has anything really changed since 1951? Acknowledged as one of his true masterpieces.
